Yes We Can!

There are hundreds of young talented students are facing deportation every day. Let me repeat that, there are hundreds of young talented students are facing deportation every day. And they need our help.

I still remember Walter Lara’s case. Walter Lara is a 23 year-old, graduated from high school with outstanding grades. However, he did not get any equal access to educational opportunities because of his status—he was an undocumented student. It was a miserable moment for Walter because he could not get a job, obtain a driver license, or get a financial aid. Worst of all, he was scheduled to be deported it on July, 6, 2009. Sudden deportation letter from ICE made Walter and his family broke into great sadness, but he did not give up and refused to be deported. He did not give up because they were hundreds of student activists across the states supported Walter. Every day, thousands of young activists called congressmen, sent letters, signed petition, and periodically used media as to defend his case. Nevertheless, his deportation day was coming up, but we still did not give up. Instead, we continued to work hard and we became even stronger. We were united as one. Every student from all over states used different tactics to help Walter, because we wanted Walter to stay in this country, America. With our strong efforts on Walter Lara’s case, Walter Lara was finally right to stay in this country. But not only that, he was able to receive legal status. Walter and his family were delighted by the astonishing result. From that point, I realized anything is possible in this country as long as if we work hard and work together as one. 4781_507998161553_110200613_30203736_2284602_n

Despite of our victory over Walter Lara’s case, we got some more work to do. There are hundreds of students who are just like Walter Lara that desperately need our help and our advocacy at this moment. Yes, they need our help, our voice, our leadership, and our advocacy.

Jorge-Alonso is a 21 years old, graduated from high school with outstanding grades and received numerous honorable awards from school and the community. He wants to attain higher education because he wants to contribute to society when he gets older. However, he is denied his rights and unable to get access to equal educational opportunities because of his status. Not only that, he is scheduled to be deported September 23rd, 2009. He is scared. He is afraid. He is afraid of separating with his beloved friends and family in this country, he is afraid of tossing away his education and his talent, and he is afraid of losing his dream—the dream of reaching higher education and contributing to the society. He has 24hours left to be in this country. The time is limited for him. This is when we need to step up and work even harder to fight for his case. We need to tirelessly call congressman, send letters, and sign petition to defend Jorge-Alonso’s case. I know that we can win this case once again.

We cannot rest. We cannot rest because hundreds of students are facing deportation and they need our help. We cannot rest because Jorge-Alonso needs our help. Because we have power, we can win this case again. But we have to work hard and come together as one; just like what we did in Walter Lara’s case. Remember that you have a power and ability to change one’s life. So I encourage you to call congressman, send letters, and sign petition today. We can win this! No, we will in this!

Go Hae

I-RUN

No matter how busy I am, I run at night once a week. I run at night because no one is around but me. Most importantly, I run at night when everyone is resting because I want to reach my goal. The goal that is required of perseverance, commitment, and hard work.

Since then, I realized every aspect of our lives is just like running. Indeed, everything requires of perseverance, commitment, and hardwork in order to achieve its goal. It is true, nothing in life is easy, but rather we need to earn by hard work and dedication.

Because I want to reach my goal, I run.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

Reason why I'm running for President of Laney College Student Government

Dear Laney College Asian American students,
I believe education is a priority for all students regardless of race, gender, age, and status. My primary goal is to see all students to achieve a higher education and have equal access to educational opportunities that are presented in Laney College. I’m so proud to be part of Laney College student because we have great professors, talented athletics as well as talented musicians, various clubs, and diverse groups. In addition, Laney College provides lifelong educational opportunities that care for all the students. I believe Laney College is one of the finest community college in nation, yet most of the students have doubts about Laney College because we haven’t kept our promises and show our commitments to the students. For that reason, I will be running for the president of Associated Students of Laney College (ASLC) because I want to reunite the voice of students and to bring energy back to our campus. If I become a president of ASLC, I will make sure to create more events and activities, increase clubs and organizations, support all sports team, provide affordable health care plan, and make our campus clean and safe for all the students. Thank you.

Wish to be dream within a dream

Yesterday, I had a strange dream that I could never forget what happened on that dream. My dream was so clear and so vivid that I could remember every single details of it. So when I woke up today, I immediately searched for interpretation of my dream. When I found the explanations of my dream, I was so excited for new days and new opportunities that are in 2009.

It was late at night, I was with my friends and we were looking at the sky. (No homo) Suddenly, one of my friends raises Index Finger and point towards to the West, and says “Ju, do you see that stars?” And I said, “yeah, but I feel like stars are coming towards us.” Yes indeed, thousands of stars were coming towards my direction. I tried to run away, but it was too late. Thousands of bright stars went straight into my head and my heart. And the moment when the stars went into my head, I felt goose bump all over my body. Then I woke up.

Whether this interpretation of my dream is true or not, I’m so excited for 2009. Here is the brief explanation of my dream that I searched on a web.
1. Star: Old dream interpretation books say that seeing stars in your dream means that your wishes are going to be fulfilled. Even from a more pragmatic point of view, stars seem to be positive dream symbols. They could represent insight, luck, fortune and the mysteries of the universe. Stars represent those wonderful things that we aspire to but have difficulty obtaining. To follow a star is to follow a dream, an insight, or your intuition to a more desirable location or position in life. Thus, stars in your dreams could also symbolize internal or external guidance and truth.
2. If the dream displays a clear sky full of many bright stars, great success lies ahead, but if the stars are pale or obscured by clouds, there will be a period of poverty before you finally attain your goals.
3. A star between the horns of the New Moon indicates that an influential person, probably a woman, will appear on the scene and assist you in attaining your dearest dream.
4. A shooting or falling star implies success after a period of great effort.

Well anyways, thanks for reading and I just would to say Happy New Year to you and your family. “Don’t forget to aim high and dream big!”
